Summary
DelaControl designed and built a large batch of Beckhoff-based local control cabinets across two machine lines for a major tobacco manufacturer. Working to the customer's own electrical and mechanical designs, DelaControl procured materials, fabricated and assembled bespoke metalwork, and carried out full panel build and testing at its Bristol facility — delivering a complete, FAT-ready set of enclosures compliant with the Low Voltage and EMC directives.
Challenge
The customer required a substantial number of Beckhoff-based local control cabinets to serve two distinct machine lines. The panels needed to be built to the customer's own approved electrical and mechanical designs, including bespoke trunking and bottom-plate assemblies, and had to meet the customer's own internal electrical panel standards.
The customer supplied certain automation components free-issue, requiring DelaControl to integrate these with separately procured materials within a single coordinated build programme. Two cabinet form factors were required — a smaller TTM-type enclosure and a larger standard enclosure — across multiple batches.
Solution
DelaControl built the full suite of local control cabinets at its Bristol facility, working to the customer's supplied electrical drawings and mechanical fabrication packs. Two cabinet sizes were produced: 4 off TTM-type enclosure (600 mm × 1000 mm × 400 mm) and 28 off standard enclosure (800 mm × 1200 mm × 400 mm). Bespoke bottom-plate and trunking assemblies were fabricated and fitted in accordance with the customer's own mechanical drawing packs.
All materials were procured and managed by DelaControl, with customer-supplied free-issue automation components integrated into the build. Each cabinet was tested to relevant standards on completion, and the customer was invited to attend a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at DelaControl's Bristol facility.
A full documentation package was produced for each batch, including a Declaration of Conformity to the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and EMC Directive — with compliance achieved against BS EN 60204, BS EN 61439-1, and BS EN 61439-2 — together with signed test certificates, a Test and Inspection Schedule, and calibration certificates.
